Gwynedd Mercy University Welcomes Ostoich as Head Field Hockey Coach

Gwynedd Mercy University Director of 体育运动 Keith Mondillo is pleased to announce that Alexa Ostoich has accepted the appointment as the Griffins’ head field hockey coach. “I am excited to announce that Alexa Ostoich has accepted the position as our new Field Hockey Head Coach! As an NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division I student-athlete at Old Dominion University and coach with Bucknell University and – more recently – the University of Richmond, she has a wealth of knowledge as a player and coach that I know will take our program to the next level.”

“I am extremely excited to join the Gwynedd Mercy University family,” said Coach Ostoich. “I would like to thank Athletic Director Keith Mondillo, as well as the rest of the search committee, for this awesome opportunity to lead this program. I am looking forward to working with the student athletes as well as the rest of the community, as we strive to be the best not only on the field but more importantly in the classroom.” Ostoich comes to Gwynedd Mercy University after previously serving as an assistant coach at the University of Richmond. She also previously held an assistant coaching role with Bucknell University (Spring 2021), where she and the 2021 NFHCA Mideast Coaching Staff of the Year led the Bisons to their first Patriot League Championship title and a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Elite 8 appearance following their 2-1 (2OT) victory over Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). During her year at the University of Richmond, the Spiders battled for a 6-12 overall record and a 2-5 finish in the Atlantic 10; Lindsey Frank enjoyed a second National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region season and garnered an All-Atlantic 10 First Team selection, while fellow senior Tess Keppel earned All-Atlantic 10 Second Team honors. Prior to Bucknell University, Ostoich served as the head field hockey coach at The Baldwin School (2020) in Bryn Mawr, 宾西法尼亚, as well as a U16 coach for Shock Field Hockey Club (2020) in Glen Mills, 宾西法尼亚.

Ostoich spent portions of 2020 at her alma mater, Old Dominion University, serving as a USA Field Hockey Futures coach. 在这个角色中, Ostoich trained various levels of athletes from young beginners to experienced high school seniors. She also spent her summers at Old Dominion University as a camp coach, counselor, and referee. 在那之前, she spent the 2019 field hockey season as an assistant varsity and head junior varsity coach at Ocean Lakes High School (Virginia Beach, 维吉尼亚). During the same academic year, Ostoich also assisted with the Ocean Lakes High School track & 现场小组.

While competing as an NCAA DI student-athlete at Old Dominion University (2015-2019), Ostoich worked as a camp coach and counselor at Villa Maria Academy in Malvern, 宾西法尼亚, where she herself was an All-State First Team field hockey player. Ostoich used her own experience to educate parents and players about Division I athletics and the life of a collegiate student-athlete. As a student-athlete, Ostoich contributed to two Big East Tournament appearances while totaling 18 points (7 goals, 3 assists) in 50 games.

A native of Malvern, 宾西法尼亚, Ostoich earned her bachelor's degree in physical education and health from Old Dominion University in 2020.
